  How does anyone know matter didn't always exist?

  a few days ago i was told matter didn't always exist.. i was told this by several persons who spoke with much certainty.. they said matter came from a singularity.. this as you know raises more questions than it answers.. have they any proof that singularities even exist?.

  how come people state things as a fact, that they have no solid proof for, and expect others to just beleive them.. and if you don't accept their beleif, you are said, not to be intelligent.. isn't that a case of attacking the straw man?.

  instead of the argument?.

  Just looking for truth and questioning what is truth to see if it is really Truth.
  I know that some will get into a religious ferver over the QUESTION of the great first cause.
  My purpose is not to upset anyone just to see what is true and test out theories with questions, question that one may be afraid to ask because it upsets their beleifs.

  if evolution is true and god doesnt exist, and all matter always existed, and life keeps adapting and getting more and more advanced, conquering all problems set before its existence.. then life should have already filled the entire universe and advanced to the point of never dying.. am i being presumptuous?.

  You seem to be pointing the finger at me for being rude to you, but really I don't feel I was ... just a little blunt maybe

  Remember that old saying that when we point our finger at some one there are 3,or 4 pointing back at us?
  Well this is your post to me before I was a little blunt to you:

If you had a high school or sophomore level knowledge of the Sciences, you wouldn't have asked the question as you'd know it was silly to anyone with a decent level of science education.   You were in effect saying I must not have finished High School, you don't have any facts to make this statement. And now when I respond your feelings get hurt.

  Lark,
  I have no theory to tell, only guesses from what I've read.
  I don't think a scientist is being truthful when he forms a theory and then proceeds to ignore evidence that conflicts with his choosen conclusion.
  Yeah I know we're only human.
  But I think we need to realize that True Science doesn't hide or down play facts that wound our pet theories.
  True Science needs to be impartial when looking at the facts, and should be interested in all facts and let the facts prove this or that, even if our pet idea gets laid to waste.

  Do some very intelligent Scientist beleive in God? Even ones that beleive in evolution? answer: Yes.
  Are they stupid? answer: No.
  Why are they not stupid? answer: Who has enough proof to truthfully call them stupid?
  I am a lay person and I read science litterature and I feel science has acomplished great things, but as you know in the world of science there is present TRUTH and old TRUTH.

  So for any to speak in absolute certain terms on origins and singularities, is as you put it "sounds like he really doesn't know what he's talking about".

  I want to question what people tell me. It's my right as a human being to question, when I was in a cult I could not question some men in Brooklyn. When people tell me things that effect my life I will question as much as I like not as much as you like but as much as I like.
  So please don't get offended if you don't have a satifactory answer to my question. It's only me and I don't mean no harm, I just have to question, I not looking for you to give me information, but if you offer it, it is my perogative to question it's soundness with relevent QUESTIONS, dig.

  There is not enough matter in our universe to slow down the inflation of the universe and at some point in the distant future, the whole universe will be spread out and eventually die from heat death and not contract again.

  How do we know that there isn't some other reason that radioactive element exist?
  

  One argument might be that if matter had always existed, radioactive elements would no longer exist.
